Top Spring/Summer Lip Products: Drugstore

Sorry for the hiatus! Family life got quite busy there for a bit, but I'm back!

I thought I would do a Spring/Summer lip series. Today I'm starting with my 10 favorite drugstore lip products.

Left to Right: Maybelline Color Whisper in Pop of Poppy (limited edition, but still out now), Revlon Lip Butter in Juicy Papaya, and Maybelline Baby Lips in Mad for Magenta. All three of these are quick, grab and go colors for me. They are moisturizing and good for no or light makeup days.

L-R: Maybelline Color Elixer in Breathtaking Apricot, Almay Liquid Lip Balm in Pink Pout, and Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in Rio Rush. The Color Elixer glosses are quickly becoming a favorite formula of mine. They have great color payoff and feel nice on the lips. The Almay liquid lip balm feels lovely and gives sheer color to the lips. The Revlon stain is very new to my collection and is definitely the most high maintanence product here. It can apply a bit patchy, but when you get the application down it is a lovely color.
L-R: All NYX: Butter Lipstick in Candy Buttons, Butter Lipglosses in Maple Blondie, Peaches and Cream, and Strawberry Parfait. I love NYX products! The Butter line of lip products are definitely my favorite drugstore lip products. The color range is awesome and the price is great, too!

Cargo Spring Tea Tin Makeup Set

Last time I was at Kohl's, I was browsing through the cosmetic section (who else loves that they carry Cargo, Lorac, Pur, TheBalm, etc now?!). I spotted the Cargo Spring Tea Tin set. For $38, you get a full size eyeshadow in Yukon, a full size lipstick in Santa Fe, a full size Swimmables eyeliner in Pfeiffer Beach, a smaple size Bali blush, and a sample size TexasLash mascara. It all comes in a pretty, pastel hued tin (which my son has already claimed as his!). Quite the deal!

Yukon is a gorgeous taupe (on my skintone the purple-ish hue comes through). Bali is a pretty springy pink with a interesting lavender duo chrome.

Santa Fe is a mauve color with shimmer and it does feel a bit gritty on application, but I don't feel the shimmer once it's on my lips. Very pretty, everyday color.

Pfeiffer Beach is a dark purple. It's a nice color and the wear time is great. It feels very creamy when applied.

TexasLash mascara...was a bit of a disappointment. The brush is huge! I don't have the smallest eyes, but this wand was too much. It gave decent volume, but no length.

Overall, a good deal for $38.

Recent Back 2 MAC Gets!

Recently, I had a bunch of 'empties' to return to MAC. Sadly, the closest MAC to me is in a Macy's, so that means I can only Back 2 MAC for lipstick. If you have a freestanding or Pro store close to you, you can get an eyeshadow pot, lipglass, or lipstick.

I had the artist help me pick out some colors as I've had (or have) all the colors I was attracted too. She picked out Lustering, Blankety, and Creme in Your Coffee.

Lustering is a bright pink with a lustre finish. It goes on slightly sheer, but is buildable. I think this will be gorgeous in the summer.

Blankety is an amplified finish. It's very opaque and creamy. The color is a pink/brown nude.

Creme In Your Coffee is a brownish red with a Cremesheen finish. This color is very 90s and takes me back to high school! (Yup. I'm getting old!)

All in all, I'm very happy with these lipsticks! The colors are lovely and MAC has an amazing lipstick formula.

Have you gotten Back 2 MAC lately?

Products I Want To Use Up: 2014

As I was organizing my collection this weekend, a strange thing happened. I got really overwhelmed by the number of products I own. It was embarrassing seeing everything laid out together. I think that beauty product enthusiasts, like myself, sort of forget how much we have. Until it's all spread out in front of us. (Yes, I am still trying a low buy/make out 2014 and it hasn't gone well so far).

I picked a few things that I would like to use up this year to focus on. I didn't pick color products (other than a few lip products) beause I want to SEE things moving on and color products take forever.

Here's what I've chosen to use up in 2014:
The Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser is on it's last legs and shouldn't be a problem to finish this year. The Too Faced Shadow Insurance feels like it's getting to the end, but it just keeps going and going...
The Dr Jart BB Cream should be nearing the end and I've only been using it for the last month in an effort to use it up. The NARS concealor is nice, but it creases like crazy under my eyes (the only place I use concealor), so it needs to go. The Studio Fix powder foundation from MAC just isn't a favorite. The NARS Light Relecting setting powder is awesom, but I've had it and not shown it enough love.
Two MAC lip products: a lip balm and a primer. Love the primer, the lip balm is just ok for me.
Lastly, the color products I want to use. I don't love the YSL Volupte Sheer Candy (I think it's the pomegranate one) or the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Pygmalion. The wear time is iffy with both and the Chanel is not the best color on me. I do love the YSL Glossy Stain in Rouge Vintage (#5, I believe), but I've had it for over a year.

So, those are the products I want to focus on using up this year! As these things are used up, I plan on replacing th with new things!

Let me know if you are doing somethkng similar!

Budget Monday: Prestige Total Intensity Eyeshadow in Bewitched

I had never really looked at the Prestige line (carried at Ulta). It's mixed in with all the drugstore things and isn't the biggest line, so I guess I had just overlooked it. Then I saw a couple reviews of the eyeshadow in Bewitched... It's a hard color to describe; it's taupey with a greenish gold duo chrome. It's simply stunning. These shades are $8.95 which is a bit pricey for a single shadow, but Bewitched is WORTH IT.

bareMinerals Ready Pressed Eyeshadow Quads

bareMinerals is known for their loose, mineral products for face and eyes. A couple of years ago, they (finally) released pressed versions of the eyeshadows.

I have two permanent quads. The Rare Find and The Happy Place.

The Rare Find contains two mattes and two shimmers (which seems to be how most of the quads are set up). Look For Words is a matte, warm, light brown. Surreal is a shimmery gold. Eureka is a gorgeous, shimmery olive green. Frisson is a matte, burgundy red. This is a beautiful quad for fall.

The Happy Place is a newer quad too my collection. Peace is a matte beigey peach. Imagine is stunning; a gorgeous melon with a gold duo chrome. Exhale is a matte taupe. Euphoria is a beautiful maroon.

The Ready eyeshadows are so awesome. The formula is super soft and pigmented. They blend well and last all day (over primer). Love these!
